Lisa Jason is a registered Dance Movement Therapist, Clinical Mental Heath Counselor, Life Coach, Movement Coach, Teacher, Professional Dancer and Singer/Songwriter, who conducts individual, group sessions and workshops in collaboration with therapists, non-profit organizations and with her own coaching and consulting business called, MOVE.
Lisa works with all abilities to connect the mind and body with principles of Dance Movement Therapy, Mindfulness, Laughter Yoga, Therapeutic Breathing, Emotional Freedom Technique, Guided Imagery, Voice, Meditation and Dance Pedagogy. Lisa integrates movement techniques and principles inspired by the pioneers of Dance Movement Therapy including Rudolf Laban, Irmgard Bartenieff, Janet Adler and Marian Chace into her work.
With a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Specialization in Dance Movement Therapy from Lesley University, Lisa has developed arts in recovery programs for Mental Health Companies and Arts based organizations that serve individuals with mental, physical and developmental disabilities. Lisa has worked with Infinity Dance Theater in New York City as a Movement Coach and Instructor, and continues to privately coach dancers of all abilities in NYC. In addition, Lisa developed and facilitated Expressive Arts programs and groups, for the Bergen County YWCA and it's affiliate, Healing Space, which serves women and families who have suffered sexual violence and human trafficking.
In addition, Lisa has developed and facilitated in school and after school arts programming, as well as been a dance instructor teaching ballet, modern and contemporary technique for students ages 3 to 83, for the past 35 years. Lisa is a classically trained dancer and has studied with The Boston Ballet, School of American Ballet in New York City, David Howard, Edward Villella, Richard Thomas and Barbara Fallis, Melissa Hayden, Douglass Wassell, Cynhia Gregory and The Eglevsky Ballet on Long Island, NY. Most recently Lisa had the honor of performing with Jaqulyn Buglasi's company in her tribute to 911, "The Table of Silence" at Lincoln Center.
With a career of 35 years in the performing arts, and over ten years in the helping field, Lisa knows first hand the healing and empowering benefits that creativity can manifest. With a passion for people and spreading kindness and compassion, Lisa integrates her knowledge of the arts into therapeutic process, creating equity, meeting people where they are and being present in the belief that there are no boundaries that we cannot navigate through on our life's journey to living a full, balanced, authentic and joyful life.
Lisa has an entrepeneurial spirit who believes strongly in the mission of Abilities and the passion the Ellice Patterson continues to set forth as Founder and Director. Having been brought on to contribute as a movement and rehearsal coach, to the upcoming performance of "Audacity", she has been inspired by this company and hopes to contribute her background and experience in service of the company and Ellice.
