Dara Capley
Dara Capley (she/her) is a dance artist based in Somerville, MA. She is originally from Florida, where she trained at the Patel Conservatory. After training, she worked with Brandon Ballet, Sarasota Opera, and Nashville Ballet, and then joined Festival Ballet Providence in 2015, where she performed works by Mihailo Djuric, Yury Yanowsky, Mary Ellen Beaudreau, Christopher Huggins, George Balanchine, José Limón, and others. She also originated soloist roles for Viktor Plotnikov, Ty Parmenter, and Katherine Bickford.
Dara choreographed her first piece in 2019, where she fell deeply and quickly in love with this form of expression. Some places that have presented or commissioned her since- Revolve Dance Project, Dance Canvas, The Dance Complex, Dean College, Sarasota Contemporary Dance, Choreography Project Providence, Boston WIP, Abilities Dance Boston, and Somerville ArtBeat. She has also collaborated with musicians such as Josh Knowles, Chrissy Stewart, Katie Martucci, Robert Gross, and Erin Rogers.
In 2023, she began working in dance for film when she choreographed the music video for Mel Fine’s “Like He Gets to Love Her,” and choreographed and co-directed with Stephanie Houton for Mel’s music video for their song “BF.” She collaborated with Stephanie again and co-directed the music video for James McCarthy’s “Dancing with a Shadow.”
Currently, she serves as the rehearsal director for Abilities Dance Boston and Cassie Wang, as well as performs in freelance projects and presents her own work through commissions and self-production, and teaching with the Midday Movement Series.
